Before Uhuru is a historical RTS game set during Kenya's struggle for independence. Command your forces from above in the current alpha. FPS mode—where you can drop into the boots of a single fighter—is in development for future release.
We're filling a massive void in global gaming. While hundreds of games explore WWII, the American Revolution, and Vietnam, Africa's stories remain untold. Before Uhuru is our attempt to document, honor, and share the journey of our people toward self-determination.
Command your faction, manage scarce resources, forge alliances, conquer territory, and uncover history in a strategy experience where every decision shapes the road to independence.
Drop into the body of a single soldier at any moment. Feel the weight of a captured Lee-Enfield. Navigate dense bamboo forests. Every shot matters because ammunition is scarce and your life is fragile. Planned for 2027 release.
We grew up hearing stories. Our grandparents told us about the forests of Aberdare, the oathing ceremonies, the night raids, and the price that was paid so that we could hold our heads high in our own country.
Most of our generation only learned about colonialism from school. A chapter in a textbook. A few paragraphs about the Mau Mau. A date to memorize: December 12, 1963. And that's it.
The education system gave us the what but never the who, the how, or the why. We learned that independence happened. We never learned what it cost.
Before Uhuru is our attempt to change that.
